Hawaii, the 43rd largest state in the United States of America, consists of over a hundred islands strategically located in the mid Pacific Ocean between mainland USA and Asia. The total land area is 6,423 square miles.
Seven of the Hawaiian islands are currently populated. They are Oahu, Kauai, Niihau, Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Hawaii Island (aka The Big Island). For administrative purposes these islands are incorporated as Hawai'i County (for Big Island), Maui County (for Maui, Molokai, Lanai), Honolulu County (for Oahu) and Kauai County (Kauai and Ni'ihau).
